Hanging Your Chime

Where and how you hang your wind chime makes all the difference. Follow these tips to get the best sound and longest life from your EXQUIVERA memorial chime.

Choose the Right Spot

Hang your wind chime where the wind can reach it from as many directions as possible. An open corner of a porch, patio, or garden is ideal. Avoid hanging it too close to walls, plants, or furniture that might block the breeze.

Experiment with Height

Try hanging your chime at different heights. Wind velocity tends to increase with elevation, so a higher position may produce more frequent and lively tones, while a lower spot creates a gentler, more occasional sound.

Adjust the Clapper Position

The wooden clapper (the piece in the center that strikes the tubes) can be moved up or down along the string. Raising it produces shorter, brighter tones as it strikes the upper part of the tubes. Lowering it creates deeper, more resonant sounds. Slide it gently and find the tone that speaks to you.

Seasonal Wind Changes

Prevailing winds change with the seasons. Your chime may sound lively in spring and autumn when breezes shift frequently, and softer in summer. Try moving your chime to different locations throughout the year to catch the best seasonal winds.

Keep Clear of Obstacles

Avoid hanging your chime within two feet of a wall or near objects that could obstruct or divert airflow. If you have a screened-in porch, you may find that the screens reduce the breeze enough to limit the chime's sound.

Secure Hanging

Use a sturdy hook rated for outdoor use. Make sure the hook is firmly anchored β€” a ceiling hook, a strong tree branch, or a shepherd's hook in the garden all work well. The chime should hang freely and be able to spin gently without obstruction.

Indoor Hanging

Memorial wind chimes also sound beautiful indoors. Hang near an open window, in a sunroom, or in a quiet memorial corner. Even a gentle indoor draft will bring the chime to life with soft, comforting tones.

Pro Tip

If you own multiple EXQUIVERA chimes, create your own personal sound garden. Place them at different heights and locations to build layers of harmonious tones β€” each breeze will bring a unique melody of remembrance.

Sound Guide

Clapper higher = brighter, shorter tones. Clapper lower = deeper, longer-lasting resonance. There is no wrong position β€” adjust until you find the sound that feels right for you and your loved one's memory.
